It's
a place where kangaroos live in trees, fish live in and out of the water,
and insects grow to be as long as your hand. Welcome to Australasia: Where
Worlds Collide, Where Worlds Divide. Australasia is a region of islands
- New Guinea, the Philippines, Indonesia, and the island continent of Australia.
Every island stands in isolation, a unique ecosystem. Like the region of
the world it represents, the exhibit showcases an incredible diversity of
species in diverse habitats.
Observe Matschie's tree kangaroos as they explore an indoor/outdoor habitat.
Visit with Bali Mynas, visually striking and highly endangered birds from
Indonesia. The Conservation Department at RWPZ helps run the Tree
Kangaroo Conservation Project in Papua, New Guinea. A program of the
Association of Zoos and Aquariums
(AZA), this project is determining the conservation status of wild tree
kangaroos as well as encouraging conservation awareness among local landowners
in Papua, New Guinea.
