AUSTRALIAN
SHELDUCK
Tadoma tadornoides
You can find me here: in marshes, shallow lakes, grasslands and pastures in South Eastern Australia & Tasmania. Although, I like to spend my winters in Queensland.
Hungry? I prefer leavs and seeds of plants, sedges, algae, aquatic invertebrates, mollusks, and small fish.
Can't keep a good "duck" down! A clutch of 8 -14 creamy white eggs are laid in a cavity nest. Incubation period is 30 days. The hatchlings are tended by both parents until post-fledgling stage.
Stick with the group: They like to stick in groups, and even with other species. Everyone gets along, but they can be aggressive during mating season.
Status: Uncommon to rare.
