Volunteer Service Areas
Some opportunities are seasonal, some are project based, and some happen all year round.  These opportunities might include Horticulture, Operations, Education, Special Events, Administrative Support and Guest Services.  Availability of space for volunteers within each of these Service Areas, qualifications and hour requirements for volunteering in each Service Area are predetermined and specific to the needs of Service area. More information about these areas specifics can be obtained by attending a volunteer orientation or by contacting the Manager of Volunteer Resources at Volunteer@rwpzoo.org or Phone (401) 785-3510 ext 356.

Conservation – typically a project based area.  Our conservation area speaks directly to the mission of Roger Williams Park Zoo.  This year is the Year of the Frog and we will be doing a frog monitoring program.  Training dates for this opportunity are February 27th and March 9th.  Contact the Volunteer@rwpzoo.org or Phone (401) 785-3510 ext 356 for more information.

Docents - Educate our guests about the animals and the conservation projects that Roger Williams Park Zoo participates in; become a volunteer educator and commit substantial time and effort, over an extended period, to develop expertise on the Zoo and its animals.  Please note - Docents agree to volunteer at least 72 hours per year in public interaction (an average of 6 hours per month).  This opportunity also comes with a mandatory training that begins in January.

Guest Services – Help make sure that the Zoo experience is as amazing as possible by greeting the groups that come.  Volunteers are needed at the gates, outside new exhibits and at certain events to make sure the needs of our guests are met.  Volunteers in Guest Services help to assure that the Zoo experience is safe and good for all.

Special Events – Volunteers will help with special events both on-grounds and off. May include helping to prepare in advance of an event or assisting with break-down and clean-up.

Other stuff…there is always other opportunities that come up.  If you are interested in learning more about our current opportunities, please contact the Volunteer@rwpzoo.org or Phone (401) 785-3510 ext 356 for more information.
