Zoo Explorers (ages 6 - 8)educator with biofact
Come have fun while learning more about our world and the animals in it!  This exciting hour-long program is designed for children 6-8 years old, who have moved on from the adult/child pairs of our pre-school programs.  Spend some time in the classroom exploring biofacts and other activities, and then head outside to learn more about adaptations, niches and behaviors through Zoo exploration.

Class size, 8 min. - 12 max.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.  No younger or older siblings please.

Members: $14 per child / Non-members: $20 per child

Snakes

They shed their skin when it’s time to grow and can be found in their habitat by looking high and low.  So come sit awhile and listen quite close to learn about snakes, the reptile with the most.

Farmyard

Roger Williams had a farm … E-I-E-I-O!  On this farm he had lots of friends … E-I-E-I-O!  With a hee haw here and an oink oink there!  Here a baa, there a moo, everywhere a cockadoodle dooooo!!!!  Come by and meet our fabulous farm friends!

Flamingos

They are Pink!!  Wait, are they pink?  Well, their head is pink, their neck is pink, their body is pink, their wings are pink, their ankles are pink, their feet are pink, and even their eyes are a pale shade of... pink.  Yes!! They are pink, but only when they eat the food which turns them pink.  Join us at the zoo and learn about the different things flamingos eat to turn pink.

Animals in Trees

Animals and trees!!  Trees and Animals!!  Animals and Trees!!  Trees and Animals!!  Is there a connection?  Of course there is!!  From squirrels to gibbons, have some fun learning about how animals and trees co-exist!

Wild Art! (ages 6 - 12)
kids with artworkStarting this spring, local artist Megan Whitney Cortesi will be teaching Wild Art.  Megan, whose illustrations can be seen on the Zoo’s wetlands trail, will lead drawing lessons designed to cultivate new skills and sharpen old ones while having fun and learning about zoo animals! Students will leave the class with a completed drawing featuring the animal of that month’s theme.

Program meets from 10 - 11:30 a.m.

Class size, 8 min. - 15 max.

Roots & Shoots logoRoots & Shoots (ages 9 - 12)
Roots and Shoots is an exciting "club" program founded by Dr. Jane Goodall in 1991. Its mission is to guide young people in taking action on issues that they feel are important. Care and concern for the human community, the environment and animals are the goals of the activities at each meeting. These activities will help young people develop self-respect, confidence in themselves and hope for the future. Club meets from 3:30 - 5 p.m. on select Tuesdays 
(October 6 & 20, November 3 & 17, December 1 & 15, January 5 & 19, February 2 & 23, March 2, 16 & 30, April 13 & 27, May 11 & 25, June 8)

Dues are $85 for 1 year membership (Oct - June);
$40 for 1/2 year membership (Feb. - June)

Bug Club logoBug Club (ages 6 - 12)
Attention all bug lovers - become a bug scientist! Join the Bug Club and help us study the most important critters on earth!  In each class we will study all kinds of bugs, do a bug project and play a bug game! Class size, 5 min. - 15 max.Club meets one Sunday each month from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Class size: 5 min. - 12 max.

Session 1 has ended.
Session 2 meets January 31, Februay 28 and March 28

Dues are $45 per session
