Spooky Zoo

Join us for a little spooky fun - October 17, 18, 24 &25!

Spooky Zoo is back offering two weekends of outdoor autumn activities for the whole family!  Activities run from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and are free with Zoo admission. And all children (12 and under) dressed in costume receive half-priced admission!

Activities include:

  • Trick or Treat stations supported by the Citizens Bank Foundation
  • Newport Creamery Costume Contest with “wild” prizes
  • Watch the animals get a pumpkin treats
  • Creepy, crawly animal encounters
  • Creepy Animal Tales
  • Spooky Games Tent - Games and Prizes for all ages featuring Monster Mini Golf and other games to get you into the "sprit" of the day (Located in the Picnic Pavilion behind the Education Center)
  • Live pumpkin carving demonstrations by Richard Kaiser
  • Roaming costumed characters and entertainers
  • Shaw’s will be collecting non-perishable food donations for the RI Community Food Bank.  Please drop your donation at the Shaw’s booth!

  • Trick or Treat along our Tropical America Trail - supported by the Citizens Bank Foundation
    • Trick or Treat Bags will be available at the beginning of the Trail
  • Elaborate characters from Ten31 Productions 10am-12pm and 12:30pm-2:30pm (Located at Admissions Plaza)
  • AAZK Elephant Stop Raffle 12:30pm - 2pm - Which Pumpkin will last the longest? Raffle tickets will be $1 per ticket or 6 tickets for $5. Winners of the raffle will receive AAZK sponsored prizes.
  • Learn to juggle, stilt walk and more with Marvelous Marvin 10am-3pm (Located in the Marco Polo Plaza near the Camel exhibit)
  • Professional Pumpkin Carving Demos with Richard Kaiser (Located near Elephant exhibit)
  • Barnacle Pirate Band - Musical at Performances 10:30am - 11am; 11:30am - 12pm; 1pm - 130pm; 2pm - 2:30pm (Located by the Elephant exhibit)
  • Alison Paul – The Crow reading 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm (Located on the Farmyard Porch)
  • Animal Encounters 10:30, 11:30, 1:00 and 2:00 (Located outside Australasia Building - Will be moved inside the Australasia Building depending on weather)
  • Pumpkin Enrichment – 11am (Gibbons) 12pm (Moon Bears) 1pm (Camels) 2pm (Elephants)
  • Spooky Games Tent - Games and Prizes for all ages featuring Monster Mini Golf and other games to get you into the "sprit" of the day (Located in the Picnic Pavilion behind the Education Center)
  • Monster Mini Golf Motorcycle on display (Located in Hungry Bear Plaza)
  • Animal Talks: Guinea Hogs at 11am followed by Snow Leopards at 1pm
  • Tasty Fall Food for sale throughout the Zoo
  • Meet and Greet with Paws from the Pawtucket Red Sox from 12pm - 1pm (Roaming)
  • Temp Tattoo Station
  • Mask making with paper artist Lisa May Tobin (located inside the Elephant and Giraffe Pavilion)
  • Shaw’s will be collecting non-perishable food donations for the RI Community Food Bank.  Please drop your donation at the Shaw’s booth!
  • Learn and explore at the Africa Education Station
  • Learn and explore at the Skulls and Bones Education Station in the Australasia Building
  • Newport Creamery Costume Contest 11:30am & 1:30pm
    • Located at the Hungry Bear Plaza Stage
  • Get into the spirit of Halloween with our Frighteningly Fun DJ (Located in Hungry Bear Plaza)

  • Sidewalk Stompers 11am-11:45am / 1pm-1:45pm (Located near Elephant exhibit - WEATHER PERMITTING)
  • Alison Paul – The Crow reading 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm (Located on the Farmyard Porch; if it is raining stories will be told in the Australasia Building)
  • Animal Encounters 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:00pm and 2:00pm (Located outside Australasia Building - Will be moved inside the Australasia Building depending on weather)
  • Pumpkin Enrichment– Piñata – 11am (Gibbons) 12pm (Moon Bears) 1pm (Camels)
