to Host Hispanic Heritage Day Celebration September 12
Event to Launch Hispanic Heritage Month with Cultural Family Activities, Appearances by "Rugrats"

Providence, RI - Roger Williams Park Zoo hosts Hispanic Heritage Day Sunday, September 12, a day of family fun, activities and entertainment in honor of Hispanic heritage.

The celebration, which serves to officially kick off Hispanic Heritage Month in Rhode Island, is being presented by the zoo in partnership with Providence En Espanol and will feature cultural music and dancing as well as special appearances by "Tommy" and "Angelica," two of the animated stars of Nickelodeon's The Rugrats.

Special entertainment, demonstrations and activities will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Sentinel Dog Plaza, including music by a Mexican Mariachi and performances by salsa, Peruvian and Bolivian dancers. Special animal presentations in the zoo's Tropical America building are also planned.

Providence En Espanol is the state's only weekly Hispanic newspaper, this year celebrating its fifth anniversary serving Rhode Island's Latino community.

Hispanic Heritage Day is presented with support from Providence En Espanol, Cox Communications, Cox Business Services, NBC10, Shaw's Supermarkets, Coca Cola, Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island, Poder 110 and Citadel Communications. Appearances by Tommy and Angelica of the Rugrats are courtesy of Cox Communications and Nickelodeon.

The Hispanic Heritage Day celebration at the zoo is Sunday, September 12th, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.; all activities are free with regular zoo admission. Regular admission is $10 for adults, $6 for children ages 3 - 12 and $8 for seniors. Members and children under three are free.
