Roger Williams Park Zoo to Celebrate Armed Forces Day with

Military Discounts, Displays and Performances, May 17

Providence, RI  In honor of national Armed Forces Day, Roger Williams Park Zoo is hosting an Armed Forces Day at the Zoo on May 17, featuring a variety of displays and activities focused on military service both past and present.  All active military personnel and veterans will receive free admission for the day, along with half-priced admission for their immediate families.

Zoo visitors will have the chance to check out a helicopter from the Quonset Air Museum, an Army military police hummer, a display from the SeaBee Museum, Vietnam-era memorabilia, and a WWI and WWII military poster display and color guard courtesy of the East Greenwich Varnum Continentals.  The day’s entertainment includes special talks about the symbol of our nation at the Bald eagle exhibit, as well as fife and drum performances and talks by the Pawtuxet Rangers.

Armed Forces Day at the Zoo was made possible by a grant from the Horace A. and S. Ella Kimball Foundation.  Activities run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are free with regular Zoo admission.  Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for seniors (62+) and $6 for children (ages 3 – 12).  Children under 3 and Zoo members get in free.  For more information, visit www.rogerwilliamsparkzoo.org or call 401-785-3510.

Roger Williams Park Zoo is operated and maintained by the Rhode Island Zoological Society and is owned by the City of Providence.
